DAN MIRER: Stop, Pop, & Roll
|
Dan Mirer, long recognized for his creatively designed glass, has expanded his oeuvre to include kinetic work and video. Stop, Pop, & Roll includes video of Mirer's glass 'airlocks,' and Bubble Drum, a 55-gallon drum with blown glass top and interior projected video. Wall-mounted 'bubble blocks' explore the structural behavior of cell-like formations through the use of blown and kiln-fused glass. Mirer's work examines how physics dictates aesthetics. "Be it a soap bubble or a blown glass object, properties of formation, symmetry, and movement reflect the physical forces at work. Patterns spontaneously emerge through self-organization, exemplifying how these forces shape things on all scales in nature..." says Mirer.
