FLESH & STONE
Mavin Staub Ambrose and Colleen McCall
October 29, 2010 - January 8, 2011

Mavin Staub Ambrose is known for painting on layers of sheer silk. Her anatomical and natural motifs are inspired by poignant personal experiences and also reflect an interest in feminine strength.  For this exhibition Ambrose has expanded her repertoire by utilizing clay, found objects and other new materials. The resulting assemblages represent an exciting new direction her.

Colleen McCall’s fragments of life-sized figures made in clay are elegant studies with suggested drama.  McCall’s newest works mimic classical Greek metopes (narrative sections of sculpted marble frieze) that also use pieces to suggest more than meets the eye.
