MELISSA ZAREM grew up in New York City where she logged many hours scouring museums. After earning her BFA at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, Melissa returned to Brooklyn where she started a career as an artist in residence with the Henry Street Settlement House’s Abrons Arts Center. Between 1992 and 1998 her art was featured in a number of shows at the Abrons Arts Center as well as in galleries in Brooklyn, including: Cold Fish (1995), The Montauk House (1996), and Henry 125 (1997). After a hiatus to raise young children, Melissa returned to Ithaca, New York with her family. Relocating provided her with the necessary space and time to redouble her artistic productivity. She was awarded a position in the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) Mark ’11 professional development program and since then has had solo exhibitions at Ithaca venues such as The Corners Gallery and Community Arts Partnership’s ArtSpace. After her inclusion in ‘Here+Now’ at Exhibit A in Corning, New York she was invited to join the gallery as a represented artist. Zarem’s first solo exhibition at Exhibit A, ‘Mind Under Matter’ took place in 2014. She was one of the gallery’s featured artists during Miami Art Week at Aqua Art Miami in December of 2014 and most recently is honored to be one of only eleven artists in ‘Locally Sourced’ a 2015 exhibition at Cornell’s Johnson Art Museum. Born 1966 in Baltimore, Maryland
